Hey Pune folks, brace yourselves for a hike in CNG prices! Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) has decided to increase the retail price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and nearby areas like Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjewadi. The new prices came into effect from midnight on 21st/22nd November 2024, with a Rs. 2.00/- per KG increase including taxes. So, get ready to pay Rs. 87.90/- per KG instead of the previous Rs. 85.90/- per KG.

Wondering why the sudden increase? Well, MNGL had to raise the prices due to the rising input cost of natural gas. To make up for the shortfall in domestic natural gas allocation, they are blending in higher-priced Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (imported R-LNG) to meet the demand from CNG customers. This combination has pushed up the overall cost of gas procurement for MNGL.

But here’s the silver lining – even after the price hike, MNGL’s CNG is still a cost-effective option compared to petrol and diesel. You can save around 48% and 25% when using CNG instead of petrol and diesel, respectively, for passenger cars in Pune. And for autorickshaws, the savings are still around 27%.

So, while the price increase might pinch your pocket a bit, remember that CNG is still a more economical choice for your vehicle in Pune. Drive safe and keep an eye on those fuel prices!
