The political landscape in Bhor witnessed a major upset as the NCP’s Shankar Mandekar emerged victorious over the Congress stronghold in the recent election. Mandekar’s win over sitting MLA Sangram Thopte by a significant margin of 19,638 votes has put the spotlight on the changing dynamics in the region.
Thopte, seeking his fourth term, faced tough competition from the new face of Mandekar, who managed to sway the voters with his fresh perspective. The anti-incumbency sentiment and allegations of nepotism against Thopte, who comes from a political background, seemed to have played a crucial role in his defeat.
Despite the support of veteran leader Sharad Pawar, Thopte was unable to overcome the wave of dissatisfaction among the residents, especially in areas like Mulshi, Hinjawadi, and surrounding regions. The high voter turnout of 68.01% and a total of 4.21 lakh voters further worked in Mandekar’s favor, leading to his comfortable victory.
The outcome of this election serves as a reminder of the changing political dynamics and the importance of addressing the concerns of the voters. As Mandekar gears up to represent the Bhor constituency, all eyes will be on him to deliver on his promises and work towards the development of the region.
