Pune Airport has been making strides in improving its passenger service standards, recently moving up from the 76th to the 74th position in the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) index. This is a positive development for the airport, but there are still areas that need further enhancement.
With Union Minister of State for Aviation Muralidhar Mohol hailing from Pune, there are high expectations for more improvements in passenger amenities at the airport. The ASQ index, which is published by Airports Council International, evaluates the quality of services at airports around the world. Pune Airport scored 4.84 out of 5 points in the recent survey, up from 4.81 in the previous quarter.
Key aspects of the ASQ index include availability of seating near gates, ease of navigation within the airport, flight information availability, courtesy of staff, quality of Wi-Fi and charging stations, cleanliness and restroom facilities, safety measures, and recreational options.
Despite the progress made by Pune Airport, there are still challenges in areas such as vehicle access and parking facilities, long wait times at border/passport control checks, and seamless connections with other airlines. Earlier this year, the airport failed in 16 out of the 31 parameters, but the latest results show significant improvement.
In 2024, Pune Airport ranked 71 in the January-March quarter, dropped to 76 in April-June, and improved to 74 in July-September. With ongoing efforts to improve passenger satisfaction, Pune Airport is expected to continue moving up in the global ASQ index.
