Pune, a bustling city in Maharashtra, has been in the spotlight recently due to a wave of protests against the high bills and treatment fees charged by private hospitals. These protests, led by concerned citizens, are shedding light on the issues faced by patients and the lack of support from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
In an effort to address these concerns, the PMC introduced a Grievance Redressal Room in line with the Maharashtra Nursing Homes Registration Rules 2021. However, this initiative seems to have been neglected over time, leaving patients feeling unheard and unsupported.
The PMC’s Health Department set up a dedicated grievance redressal cell to handle complaints about malpractices in private hospitals. They even launched a toll-free number, 18002334151, for patients to reach out during office hours. Unfortunately, this number has been non-responsive for the past five months, leaving patients frustrated and without a way to voice their concerns.
The lack of a functioning toll-free number raises serious doubts about the PMC’s commitment to addressing patient grievances. Despite being active initially, the number has now been ignored, leaving patients at the mercy of private hospitals with no support from the health department.
Attempts to get a response from the PMC regarding the non-functional grievance redressal system have been met with silence, further highlighting the disconnect between the health department and the needs of ordinary patients. It’s a concerning situation that needs urgent attention to ensure that patients are not taken advantage of by private healthcare providers.
