Hey Pune folks, it looks like the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up to get serious about collecting property taxes again! After a bit of a setback during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections earlier this year, the PMC is ready to go full throttle starting December 1st.
So, here’s the deal – the PMC had set a target of ₹2,728 crores for property tax collection this fiscal year. But as of now, they’ve only managed to collect ₹1,775 crores, leaving them with a gap of ₹953 crores to fill by the end of March 2025. Yikes!
To tackle this shortfall, the PMC’s property tax department is getting ready to amp up their efforts. They’ve already started taking strict action against defaulters, sealing off 10 properties of those who haven’t paid up. And they’ve even got five teams set up to speed up the recovery process from properties that are in the clear legally.
The main reason for the delay in tax collection seems to be the election frenzy that kept PMC employees tied up from March to June. With all the transfers happening within the department, it’s no wonder things got a bit messy. But hey, it looks like the PMC is determined to get back on track and collect what’s owed to them.
So, if you’ve been slacking on your property tax payments, now might be a good time to get your act together before the PMC comes knocking on your door! Let’s all do our part to keep Pune running smoothly.
