Hey Pune! Get ready for some cooperative society elections in the new year! After being delayed due to the Assembly Elections, the elections for 29,429 cooperative societies in Maharashtra are finally set to take place. The Co-operative Election Authority (CEA) is gearing up to announce the election schedule in the first week of January 2025.
To get things rolling, the CEA has asked all concerned societies to finalize their voter lists. Those societies that have already submitted their lists can expect the election program to be announced by 31st December 2024.
The planning for these elections initially began on 1st October after the Lok Sabha elections, but got pushed back due to the Assembly Elections. Now that those elections are over, the CEA is ready to move forward with the cooperative society elections.
The elections will cover a total of 29,443 cooperative societies across the state, divided into different categories. This includes 42 in Class A, 1,716 in Class B, 12,250 in Class C, and 15,435 in Class D.
For some societies, the election process had already started before the postponement. These were mainly housing societies with 250 or fewer members and those under court directives to hold elections. The CEA will now check in with these societies to see if the chairman and vice-chairman appointments have been finalized.
The elections for the remaining societies will kick off early next year once the voter lists are updated. District-level officials have been told to speed up this process so we can get the ball rolling on these long-awaited elections. CEA Commissioner Anil Kawde has confirmed that the elections will proceed promptly after receiving orders from the state government.
So, keep an eye out for more updates on the cooperative society elections in Maharashtra! It’s time to make your voice heard in your community.
