Hey there, folks! Big news in the Catholic Church world – Bishop John Rodrigues has been appointed as the coadjutor bishop of the Archdiocese of Mumbai by Pope Francis himself. This means Bishop Rodrigues will eventually succeed Archbishop Oswald Gracias when he retires at 80 years old.

Bishop Rodrigues, who is no stranger to the Archdiocese of Bombay, will officially take on his new role on January 25, 2025. Born on August 21, 1967, he has an impressive educational background, with degrees in both science and theology.

Having been ordained a priest in 1998, Bishop Rodrigues has served in various roles within the Mumbai Archdiocese, including as the Assistant Parish Priest at St. Michael’s in Mahim and as a Professor of Dogmatic Theology at St. Pius X College in Goregaon.

The Mumbai Archdiocese is thrilled to welcome Bishop John and is already sending him their best wishes and prayers. And let’s not forget about Cardinal Oswald Gracias, one of the top cardinals in the Catholic Church hierarchy, who is stepping aside to make way for Bishop Rodrigues.

Overall, the clergy and laity in the Pune Diocese are overjoyed by Bishop Rodrigues’ elevation and are eagerly looking forward to his new role in Mumbai. Exciting times ahead for the Catholic community in India!
