Pune, 11th June 2024: In a recent announcement, Pune’s Member of Parliament, Murlidhar Mohol, has been appointed as the Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation. Mohol emphasized the importance of his new role, stating that Maharashtra’s cooperative institutions play a crucial role in uplifting the poor.

Experts in the aviation industry are optimistic about Mohol’s appointment and believe that it will lead to progress on several long-pending projects, such as the expansion of Lohegaon airport’s runway and the development of a new airport in Purandar.

Retired Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale expressed confidence in Mohol’s understanding of Pune’s need for an independent airport and believes that his appointment will expedite the process of finalizing a site for the new airport project. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had previously announced that land acquisition for the new airport project would begin after the elections.

Sudhir Mehta, former president of MCCIA, commented on Mohol’s appointment, stating that it acknowledges the critical need for a dedicated airport in Pune and will address infrastructural challenges hindering the city’s growth. Deepak Shastri, former director of Pune and Shirdi airports, believes that Mohol’s new position will accelerate progress on both the existing airport and the proposed one, particularly in expediting regulatory approvals for the new terminal and addressing political issues hindering the Purandar project. Overall, Mohol’s appointment has raised hopes for concrete action in advancing Pune’s aviation infrastructure.
