So, here’s the scoop – the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has come down hard on a Pune-based construction firm, BramhaCorp Limited, slapping them with a hefty fine of ₹3.11 crore for flouting environmental regulations. Ouch!
Apparently, this company started their ‘Brahma Exuberance, Elite’ project back in 2005 in Kondhwa Khurd and has been causing quite a stir ever since. The NGT found them guilty of a laundry list of environmental violations, including unauthorized groundwater extraction, non-operational sewage treatment plants, and the use of diesel generator sets. Yikes!
Now, let’s talk about the cold, hard cash. BramhaCorp Limited has been ordered to cough up ₹2.37 crore to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and ₹74.18 lakh to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) within a month. That’s definitely going to leave a dent in their pockets!
The Brahma Exuberance, Elite project itself is no small fry, spanning over 17,433.10 sq m with five buildings and 249 flats. It’s a pretty big deal, and it seems like they’ve been cutting corners when it comes to playing by the rules.
The case against BramhaCorp Limited was brought to light in 2019 by a concerned citizen named Ajay Bhosale, who raised red flags about the lack of proper environmental clearance for the project. It looks like his efforts have finally paid off, with the NGT coming down hard on the construction company.
In response, a spokesperson from BramhaCorp Ltd stated that they had actually received an ex-post-facto clearance in October 2023 and plan to appeal the NGT’s decision. They argue that the fines imposed were based on incorrect interpretations and that they are committed to addressing the concerns raised.
Well, it looks like BramhaCorp Limited has some explaining to do, and it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out in the end. Stay tuned for more updates on this environmental saga!
