Heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Pune over the weekend, with over 350 distress calls flooding the PMC disaster management helpline. The newly elected MP, Murlidhar Mohol, wasted no time in reviewing the city’s situation, promising additional staff deployment at the ward level to address the complaints.

Ganesh Sonune, head of PMC’s disaster management, assured residents that more manpower would be allocated to areas in need. To report any issues, citizens can contact PMC at 02025506800 or 02025501269.

Shivajinagar bore the brunt of the rainfall, recording 101.7 mm in just a few hours, the highest one-day rainfall for June in over 30 years. The chaos resulted in severe waterlogging, uprooted trees, and flight delays, with nearly 20 flights affected.

Residents were quick to criticize the PMC for inadequate nullah cleaning, blaming poor maintenance for the flooding. The city is now working to address the aftermath of the intense rainstorm and ensure better disaster preparedness in the future.
