The picturesque town of Junnar in Maharashtra is gearing up to enhance its tourism appeal with a comprehensive plan covering 30 villages in the eastern region. The Junnar Tourism Development Organization, in partnership with local colleges, is leading the effort to preserve historical heritage and promote responsible tourism.
Amol Korde, President of the Tourism and Cultural Heritage Conservation Society in Bori Budruk, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the region’s rich history and laying the groundwork for sustainable tourism development. The eastern part of Junnar Taluka is home to several historic villages along the Kukadi River, boasting archaeological evidence dating back millions of years.
The Bori Budruk Gram Panchayat initiated conservation efforts in 2012, with the Tourism and Cultural Heritage Conservation Society playing a crucial role in preserving the area’s historical assets. Collaborations with institutions like Deccan College have furthered these preservation efforts, culminating in exhibitions and cultural events showcasing the region’s heritage.
Plans are underway to establish tourism infrastructure and a museum to safeguard historic artifacts, with proposals submitted to secure funding for these initiatives. Committees have been formed under the Tourism and Cultural Heritage Conservation Society to document and showcase historical structures in the 30 villages, with local historians and community members actively involved in the preservation process.
The ultimate goal is to bring global recognition to Junnar’s historical legacy while promoting tourism and conservation efforts in other villages. Individuals interested in contributing to this project are encouraged to reach out to the organization, led by Amol Korde and Babasaheb Jadhav. Junnar is on the path to becoming a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
