Great news for the vendors at Sinhagad Fort! After facing the demolition of their stalls nearly two years ago, the Pune Forest Department is finally set to hand over authorised food stalls to 32 vendors on December 5.
In November 2022, the Forest Department demolished 135 food stalls as part of an anti-encroachment drive. This action led to concerns among local villagers who relied on these stalls for their livelihoods. However, after several meetings and discussions, the department identified the original stalls and committed to setting up authorised stalls for the affected vendors.
The stalls, constructed in six units made of steel, are located in a designated food-vendor zone near the fort. The primary stalls measure 8 ft by 10 ft and are foldable. A lottery system will be used to allocate the stalls to the vendors, with temporary arrangements made for the remaining vendors.
This initiative not only supports the local community but also ensures the preservation of Sinhagad Fort’s historical integrity. The department’s efforts reflect a balance between environmental conservation and economic opportunities for the villagers.
Stay tuned for the exciting ceremony on December 5, where the vendors will finally receive their designated stalls!
