Hey there, folks in Katraj! If you’ve been stuck in traffic on the Katraj-Kondhwa Road, you’re not alone. The road has been a nightmare for commuters, with bumper-to-bumper traffic being a common sight. But fear not, there’s some good news on the horizon.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been working on widening the road since 2018, but the project has faced numerous delays. However, there’s a new plan in the works. The PMC is now looking to expand the road to 84 metres, up from the previously planned 50 metres.
To make this happen, officials are trying a new approach to land acquisition. They’re encouraging large landowners to accept transferable development rights (TDRs) and are in talks with the state government for funds to compensate smaller property owners.
The municipal commissioner, Rajendra Bhosale, is hopeful that financial assistance will be provided by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) once the land acquisition process is complete. The state government has already allocated Rs 200 crore for land acquisition, with Rs 140 crore already released, but more funds will be needed to expand the road to 84 metres.
Despite the challenges, there has been progress on the road construction with service lines being laid and work on an underpass and flyover underway. With the expansion plan back on track, residents and officials are looking forward to a smoother commute on one of Pune’s busiest roads.
So, hang in there, Katraj residents! Relief from the traffic congestion may be just around the corner.
