The discovery of unauthorized cables in Pune’s monsoon channels has caused major flooding issues on city roads. The PMC administration is working to remove these obstructions to prevent further problems.
Recent heavy rains have turned Pune’s roads into rivers, prompting the PMC to start inspecting the monsoon channels. Unauthorized cables were found blocking rainwater flow at various locations, including the Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden on Sinhagad Road. The Drainage Department quickly removed these cables and similar issues were found at other spots along the same road.
The Road and Drainage Departments have taken swift action to remove these cables, with workers facing electric shocks during the process. Superintending Engineer Dinkar Gojare has announced joint efforts with other departments to address the issue.
The discovery of these cable obstructions after the flooding raises questions about the effectiveness of the PMC’s drain cleaning efforts. Aniruddha Pavaskar, head of the Road Department at PMC, has confirmed that a complaint will be lodged with the police over the illegal cables in the rain channels.
Overall, the situation highlights the need for better oversight and maintenance of Pune’s monsoon channels to prevent future flooding incidents.
