The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is stepping up its game when it comes to road infrastructure maintenance. With 148 kilometers of roads now under the responsibility of contractors, the PMRDA is ensuring that defects are addressed within three to five years of construction.
Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase stressed the importance of immediate action, stating that contractors will be held accountable for road repairs and maintenance during the defect liability period. Citizens can easily report any road issues via the PMRDA website, with prompt action expected from contractors.
Covering a massive 7,000 square kilometers and 814 villages, PMRDA’s jurisdiction is vast. The decision to assign maintenance responsibilities to contractors aims to safeguard public resources and ensure the durability and quality of roads in the region.
Since 2019, PMRDA has been hard at work constructing and improving roads across multiple talukas. With a focus on improvements, widening, and concreting, contractors are expected to address any deficiencies within the specified liability period.
Completed road projects are also a key focus for PMRDA, with 92 projects already finished across Pune district. Talukas such as Haveli, Purandar, and Shirur have seen the highest number of completed projects, showcasing the authority’s commitment to road development.
To encourage citizen participation in monitoring road quality, PMRDA is urging residents to report any issues through its official website. This initiative not only ensures public involvement in maintaining road quality but also holds contractors accountable for their work.
