The Pune Cantonment Court, a historical institution operating since the British era, has finally made a much-needed move to a new location in Wanawadi. The old MG Road premises were simply not cutting it anymore, with limited space and a crumbling building causing major headaches for all involved.
With around 30,000 cases on its docket, the court had no choice but to relocate to the Mahatma Phule Sanskritik Bhavan on a temporary basis. Lawyers have confirmed the shift, acknowledging the urgent need for a more suitable space to handle the legal matters of areas including Hadapsar, Cantonment, Kondhwa, Wanawadi, and Mundhwa.
Former Pune Bar Association President Advocate K.T. Aru emphasized the importance of additional courts at the new location to tackle the backlog. With only three courts currently operational in Wanawadi, there’s a pressing need for more infrastructure to meet the demands of the community.
The decision to move the cantonment court permanently to Empress Garden was met with resistance, as citizens and organizations protested the proposal. The Pune Cantonment Board cited safety concerns and structural issues in the old building as reasons for the relocation, with rainwater seepage, poor restroom conditions, and lack of parking space being major factors.
Overall, the move to a new location is a positive step towards providing better services and facilities for all involved in the legal proceedings at the Pune Cantonment Court. Let’s hope this change leads to smoother operations and improved conditions for everyone involved.
