Hey Punekars! It’s time to buckle up and follow the traffic rules because the police are cracking down on those causing congestion on the roads.

In the last five days, a total of 23 vehicle drivers and street vendors have been slapped with cases under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for obstructing traffic flow. The city’s traffic problem is only getting worse with urbanisation, and it’s high time we all do our part in easing the situation.

Some of the recent actions taken by the traffic police include registering cases against reckless drivers, illegally parked vehicles, and vendors setting up stalls on the road. From a tempo parked dangerously in front of a hotel to a rickshaw going in the opposite direction, no one is being spared.

Under sections 281, 285, and 324(4) of the Indian Penal Code, those found guilty could face a fine of Rs 5,000, cancellation of their driving license, and even imprisonment depending on the severity of the case. So, let’s all be responsible citizens and make Pune a safer place to commute.

This year alone, the traffic police have taken action against over 9 lakh unruly drivers, recovering a whopping Rs 24 crore 90 lakh in fines. However, there’s still around Rs 51 crore 86 lakh yet to be recovered from these offenders. Let’s all work together to make our city a better place for everyone.
