The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a major cleanliness drive to tackle sanitation issues plaguing the city. With garbage scattered across roads, dividers, and public spaces, the PMC has deployed 1,500 employees to assist with the cleanup campaign.

The initiative will kick off in Zone 1 on December 9th and will span across all ward offices. The campaign aims to address dirty streets, overgrown trees, poorly maintained dividers, and improperly swept roads. Illegal waste disposal and encroachments have further worsened the sanitation situation in Pune.

Key features of the cleanliness drive include a comprehensive approach involving collaboration across various PMC departments. The campaign will focus on cleaning slum areas, removing unauthorized advertisements from dividers, clearing abandoned vehicles from streets, and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds.

The PMC will also repair rain gutters and sewage chambers, fill potholes, and clear construction debris to ensure safer streets. Schools, colleges, and social organizations will actively participate in the drive to increase manpower and promote civic responsibility among residents.

Each regional office will undergo a two-day cleaning process to address specific sanitation issues unique to each locality. The PMC is committed to creating a cleaner and healthier city for its residents through this ambitious cleanliness drive.
