Viman Nagar, 9th December 2024: Pune Airport reached a new milestone on Sunday with a record 204 flight movements in a single day, including 102 departures and 102 arrivals. This marks the highest number of movements ever recorded in a day since the start of the current winter schedule on October 27, as confirmed by airport officials.

Officials noted that Sundays typically see high activity, with movements usually ranging between 192 and 198, making the increase to 204 movements a promising development. The airport has been urging airlines to make better use of their allocated flight slots, with the hope of maximizing slot utilization.

The growing number of flight movements is attributed to increasing passenger demand, with airlines responding by using their slots more effectively. With more flights expected to join the roster in the coming weeks, including an international flight to Bangkok by Air India Express, the airport anticipates even higher activity in the future.

Despite previously touching the 200-movement mark twice in the past, the airport still has 10 out of 216 allocated slots vacant, mainly late-night or early-morning slots. Even these red-eye slots are seeing growing demand, with flights operating at high capacity during these periods.

Plans are in place to clear and repurpose the old terminal building by the end of the month, with a new road connecting the new terminal and landscaped gardens to enhance passenger convenience and aesthetics. With these developments and the rising air traffic, Pune Airport is establishing itself as a key hub in the region’s aviation network.
