Hey there, Pune folks! Looks like Cyclone Fengal is really shaking things up when it comes to the weather in Maharashtra. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that minimum temperatures in the state are soaring 5-6 degrees Celsius above the norm.
Here in Pune, nights have been unusually warm. Shivajinagar saw a minimum temperature of 16.4°C on Sunday, a whole 5 degrees higher than usual. And over at Lohegaon, temperatures reached 17.6°C, a whopping 6.2 degrees above average. It seems like this trend is going to stick around for a while, with night temperatures in Pune expected to stay above normal until December 14, except for a slight dip on December 12 and 13.
According to IMD officials, we can expect temperatures to stabilize around 12-14°C in the coming days as cooler winds from the north start blowing in. These winds should help bring those night temperatures back down to a more comfortable level.
The reason for these balmy nights? Well, it seems like Cyclone Fengal’s influence has caused moisture levels to rise, leading to the higher temperatures. But don’t worry, things should start to cool down soon, especially in places like Jalgaon, which recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Maharashtra at 10°C on Sunday. Niphad wasn’t far behind, hitting 11.7°C.
It’s been quite a rollercoaster for Niphad, with temperatures fluctuating from a chilly 7°C to a warm 22°C in just a few days. Meanwhile, Ahmednagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Kolhapur have been experiencing minimum temperatures ranging from 15.5°C to 21.8°C.
But hey, don’t sweat it too much. IMD officials are confident that things will start to normalize as the effects of Cyclone Fengal fade away and those chilly northern winds start to blow in. So grab a sweater and enjoy the slightly warmer nights while they last!
