Hey Pune folks, mark your calendars for Saturday, 14th December because the Pune District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is hosting a Lok Adalat to tackle a whopping 40,000 arrears cases of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) consumers in the Pune Zone. That’s a lot of cases to address, but they’re on it!

And that’s not all – there are also 122 cases related to electricity theft that need resolution. The PD Amnesty Scheme 2024 has been rolled out to help out consumers who have been permanently disconnected from their power supply. This scheme is open to all types of consumers except for agricultural and public water supply schemes.

Under this scheme, consumers will get a sweet deal – a 100% waiver on interest and late fees on their outstanding amount, with only the principal amount needing to be paid. Plus, if you opt for the scheme and pay your dues in one go, you’ll get a nice little discount – 10% for low-voltage consumers and 5% for high-voltage consumers. Alternatively, you can pay 30% upfront and the rest in six interest-free installments.

But wait, there’s more! New electricity connections are also up for grabs on demand. As part of the Lok Adalat, 122 cases under the Electricity Act, 2003, are up for mediation. Consumers who settle electricity theft cases during this event will get a 10% to 15% discount on their billed amount.

And here’s a fun fact – the Supreme Court has given the green light for electricity distribution companies to go after new property owners or occupants for arrears, even if ownership of the premises has changed. So, if your power has been cut off due to unpaid bills, now’s your chance to clear things up.

So, Pune peeps, don’t miss out on this opportunity to settle your dues, resolve disputes, and get your power back on. The Lok Adalat is here to help, so make sure to take advantage of it!
