Are you living in one of the flats built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and facing issues like ceiling leaks, bathroom problems, or toilet leakages? You’re not alone. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated structural audits for 4,883 such flats in response to multiple complaints from residents.
Residents raised concerns about the construction quality of these flats, which were handed over last year to economically weaker sections and low-income groups. Some residents even staged protests at the PMRDA office, seeking resolution for the reported issues. Despite developers initiating repairs, doubts about the construction materials and ongoing repairs lingered.
To address these concerns, PMRDA has enlisted the expertise of IIT Bombay and CoEP Technical University to conduct structural inspections of the flats. The goal is to determine if there were any compromises in the construction materials or if structural weaknesses exist. While PMRDA officials have deemed the structures stable, expert inspections will provide a comprehensive evaluation.
Developers are currently working on fixing the reported issues, with repairs expected to be completed by December 15. PMRDA Chief Engineer, Rinaj Pathan, emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of residents through detailed inspections and timely repairs. If the inspections reveal developer negligence, PMRDA will take appropriate actions to address the issue.
PMRDA’s proactive measures highlight their commitment to residents’ well-being and the long-term stability of the flats. By working closely with residents and developers, PMRDA aims to restore trust in the PMAY scheme and ensure the safety of the flats for years to come. Stay tuned for updates on the structural audits and repairs for these flats.
