Hey Pune folks, have you noticed the city looking a bit cleaner these days? Well, that’s because the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has kicked off a massive ‘Extensive Cleanliness Drive’ to tackle the unsanitary conditions in the city. On the first day of the drive, a whopping 24 tonnes of garbage and 16 tonnes of debris were removed from different areas of Pune.

The PMC employees and officers from various departments joined forces for this initiative. Around 764 of them hit the streets in areas like Pune Station, Tadiwala Road, and Wards No. 20 and 21 in Bundgarden. They were on a mission to clean up the mess and make Pune a cleaner, more pleasant place to live in.

During the first phase of the cleanliness drive, the team focused on areas like Alankar Chowk, Police Commissionerate Chowk, Bundgarden Water Supply Chowk, Jahangir Chowk, Ruby Hall Hospital, and City Point Chowk. They didn’t just stop at collecting garbage and debris, though. Illegal billboards and banners were also taken down, along with other obstructions on the roads.

In a bid to make the city spick and span, the Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, urged all departments to work together on this drive. The results were impressive, with a significant amount of waste being cleared up on the first day alone.

According to Sandeep Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Department, the drive is ongoing in Zone One and will continue until December 14. So, if you see a team of dedicated workers out on the streets, give them a thumbs up for their efforts in keeping Pune clean and green!
