The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has kicked off a major cleaning campaign to tackle the issue of dirty streets, trash piles, and neglected public spaces in the city. The campaign began at the Dhole Patil Ward Office and has already made a noticeable impact. In just two days, a whopping 80 tons of garbage and debris have been cleared, a big step towards restoring Pune’s cleanliness.

On the first day, 40 tons of waste, including road debris, wet and dry garbage, and garden waste, were removed. The following day, another 20 tons of road debris and 20 tons of garbage were collected. In addition to the massive cleanup, PMC workers also repaired damaged infrastructure, including streetlights, roads, and pavements.

Some key highlights of the campaign include the removal of 80 tons of waste, repairs to damaged infrastructure at 48 locations, pruning of 130 dangerous trees, and the removal of encroachments like hand carts, stalls, and unauthorized posters from public spaces. A total of 543 employees from various departments contributed to the initiative.

In specific wards, tons of waste were cleared, roads were repaired, and encroachments were removed to improve accessibility and aesthetics. Tree pruning efforts were also undertaken at various locations to ensure safer pathways for citizens.

Sandeep Kadam, head of the Solid Waste Department, emphasized the importance of collaboration among departments in successfully executing the campaign. The PMC plans to continue the cleaning drive in other ward offices to ensure the entire city benefits from the renewed focus on hygiene and infrastructure maintenance.
