Pune, December 12th, 2024: Baramati MP Supriya Sule showered praise on the Railway Ministry for their efforts in improving cleanliness at railway stations in Maharashtra during the winter session of Parliament. She commended the Ministry for their work but also expressed concern over the reduction in train stoppages at key stations like Daund, Nira, Baramati, and Jejuri.
Sule stated, “The Railway Ministry in Maharashtra has made commendable progress in terms of cleanliness, and I would like to congratulate the team for their hard work.” However, she raised an important issue regarding the decrease in train halts at crucial stations. She pointed out, “At Daund Junction, the number of trains stopping has decreased from 80 to 40. This reduction is affecting economic activities in these areas,” urging the ministry to reinstate stoppages at these stations.
In response to Sule’s concerns, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed gratitude for the recognition. “I thank the MP for acknowledging the Railways’ efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said. Addressing the issue of train stoppages, Vaishnaw assured that the matter would be reviewed.
He also provided updates on ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at enhancing railway infrastructure in Maharashtra. “The Pune-Daund corridor is of significant importance, and we have developed a comprehensive master plan for this region. It includes constructing a mega terminal at Uruli, completely redeveloping Pune railway station, transforming Shivajinagar station into a terminal, building a third and fourth line between Pune and Lonavala, and introducing a new line between Pune and Ahmednagar. Maharashtra is poised to benefit from an investment of ₹1.6 lakh crore in various railway projects,” he elaborated.
Railway officials in Pune confirmed that work on several of these projects is either in progress or will start soon.
