Pune residents can soon look forward to a smoother commute as the Pune Metro Line 3, managed by PMRDA, is set to be operational by the end of next year. The integrated flyover for the Metro line is expected to be ready by April 2025, after facing delays in construction.
The flyover construction, initially planned for completion by November 2023, has been pushed back multiple times and is now expected to finish in April next year. Issues such as pending construction work, traffic and utility challenges, election and festive period restrictions, and operational limitations have contributed to the delays.
Despite the setbacks, progress has been made, with approximately 75% of the integrated flyover work completed and metro stations between Maan and Balewadi Highstreet expected to be operational by April 2025. Efforts to expedite the work have been put in place, including directions to the concessionaire and plans to accelerate traffic diversion permissions and road widening.
Financial support for the project has also been secured, with additional funds approved recently and a total commitment of ₹1,200 crore from the Centre, of which around ₹600 crore has been disbursed.
The completion of the integrated flyover is crucial for the commencement of operations along the corridor, and PMRDA officials have stressed the importance of completing the remaining work promptly. Focus areas include completing pending work, managing traffic and utilities effectively, ensuring operational flexibility, and fostering collaboration between stakeholders.
Despite the challenges faced, the Pune Metro Line 3 is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the city, with the Maan to Shivajinagar corridor anticipated to be fully operational by late 2025. This development is set to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance urban mobility in Pune.
