Hey Pune folks, buckle up because the Regional Transport Office (RTO) is cracking down on drivers who transport school students! In a recent inspection campaign from January to November, a whopping 1,503 vehicles were checked, and 601 drivers were slapped with fines totaling ₹21.99 lakh for breaking safety regulations.
The RTO is taking this issue seriously after a scary incident in Kharadi where a school bus went up in flames. This has sparked concerns about the safety of our precious students, prompting the RTO to step up their game and ensure that drivers are following the traffic rules set by the state government.
During these inspections, officials are checking everything from vehicle fitness certificates to fire-fighting equipment and first-aid kits. They’re paying special attention to window grills, stair designs, and the presence of fire extinguishers to make sure our kids are safe. Even CNG vehicles are being scrutinized to ensure they have the proper CNG fitness certificate.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Swapnil Bhosale, emphasized the importance of following the rules to keep our school students safe. With a total of 1,503 school vehicle inspections, 601 drivers penalized, and ₹21.99 lakh in fines collected, it’s clear that the RTO means business when it comes to ensuring the safety of our children. Stay safe out there, Pune!
