The Maharashtra Minister, Shambhuraj Desai, is not one to mince words when it comes to defending the honor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In a recent press conference in Pune, he slammed veteran actor Rahul Solapurkar for his controversial remarks about the legendary Maratha king.

Desai didn’t hold back, labeling Solapurkar’s comments as “condemnable and objectionable.” He went on to demand more than just a simple apology from the actor. Desai insisted that Solapurkar should visit Raigad Fort and seek forgiveness at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s samadhi by rubbing his nose on the ground, a traditional gesture of deep remorse.

The minister’s strong stance on the issue has ignited a heated debate about historical narratives and the reverence accorded to historical figures like Shivaji Maharaj. Solapurkar’s comments, in which he claimed that Shivaji Maharaj had bribed his way out of Agra by paying off Aurangzeb’s wife and sardars, have stirred up widespread outrage in Maharashtra.

As a result of the backlash, Solapurkar was forced to resign from his trustee position at Pune’s Bhandarkar Institute. The incident has once again brought to the forefront the importance of respecting historical figures and the need to uphold the sanctity of their legacies. Desai has called for a thorough investigation into the matter to fully understand the context of Solapurkar’s controversial statements.
