The Central Government has officially announced the quota for the upcoming Haj pilgrimage, allowing 1.75 lakh pilgrims the opportunity to embark on this sacred journey. Approximately 70% of the total quota, amounting to 1,22,518 devotees, will be facilitated through the Central Government’s Haj Committee. This allocation includes a women’s Mehram quota of 500.
In a bid to increase transparency, the government has published detailed information online regarding the allocation of quotas, the selection process for devotees, and the associated costs for the pilgrimage. Khuddam-e-Hujjaj, Pune City & District Haj Committee President Haji Riyaz Qazi, along with Secretary Haji Sayyad Khan, have praised the government’s efforts in this regard.
The announcement regarding the Haj pilgrimage quota was made on August 13, 2024, with the application deadline set for September 30, 2024. A total of 1,52,976 applications were received, with 14,728 citizens above the age of 65 applying for the pilgrimage. Additionally, 3,717 more women have applied beyond the Mehram quota.
For Maharashtra, the allocated quota is 17,412 pilgrims, while the number of applications received from the state stands at 23,395. There are currently 5,983 pending applications. In Pune district, 1,442 pilgrims will be undertaking the Haj pilgrimage.
Pilgrims planning to attend Haj must deposit the first installment of Rs 1,30,300 at State Bank of India or Bank of India between October 8 and 21. Assistance and guidance will be available to Haj pilgrims at the Pensionwalla Masjid in Nana Peth. Haji Riyaz Qazi emphasized that 1,442 pilgrims will embark on the Haj journey from Pune district.
