Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Hoarding Owners Flouting Regulations

In a recent development, the Sky Sign and Licensing Department of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a strong warning to hoarding owners who are not complying with regulations in the city. The department has made it clear that if any accidents occur due to non-compliance, the hoarding owners and advertising organizations will be held accountable.

This warning comes in the wake of a tragic incident that took place in Kiwale on April 17, 2023, where an unauthorized hoarding collapse led to the death of five laborers. In response to this incident, PCMC took action by demolishing 174 unauthorized hoardings in the city. Currently, there are around 1,300 authorized hoardings in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Despite efforts made by PCMC, there have been repeated violations of rules by hoarding owners. The department had previously drafted an outdoor advertising policy twice in the last five years, but it was canceled after a new notification was issued by the state government on May 9, 2022.

In light of the Kiwale incident, the administration has stepped up enforcement of hoarding regulations. However, concerns about safety still persist as violations continue to occur. The department has received 40 new applications for hoarding permissions, but approvals were delayed due to the assembly election code of conduct. Now that the code of conduct has been lifted, the department will begin processing these applications in line with established guidelines.

Dr. Pradeep Thengal, Deputy Commissioner of the Sky Sign and Licensing Department, stressed the importance of following safety regulations to prevent accidents. He emphasized that hoarding owners must adhere to the rules to ensure public safety, and strict action will be taken against those who fail to comply.

As the department works towards ensuring the safety of the public, it is important for hoarding owners to take these regulations seriously to avoid any further tragedies. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
