The recent detection of E.coli in private water tanker supplies in Pune has raised concerns over public health and safety, especially in light of the ongoing Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) outbreak in the city. With 15 private water tanker services found supplying contaminated water, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stepped up water quality testing efforts to address the issue.
According to civic chemist Mandar Sirdeshpande, bacteria were found in samples collected from the identified private tankers. In addition to the contaminated water supply, neglected water tank cleaning in housing societies has also been identified as a contributing factor to the contamination risks. The PMC has urged residents to test their water samples at the civic laboratory to ensure clean and safe drinking water.
