The 23rd Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) is gearing up to showcase eight captivating Iranian films in its Global Cinema section. From February 13 to 20, film enthusiasts can immerse themselves in diverse narratives and emotions from the Iranian film industry.
Among the films to be featured are “At the End of the Day,” a drama exploring the lives of three young women dealing with emotional crises, and “Captain,” a heartwarming story about two boys dreaming of playing football while in a hospital’s cancer ward.
Other notable films include “In the Land of Brothers,” a joint production of Iran, France, and the Netherlands following the journey of an Afghan refugee family in Iran, and “Roxana,” a film about a young man assisting a wedding videographer.
“Shoomah” tells the story of a single mother searching for her husband after war victims are found, while “Summertime” revisits the childhood bonds of two cousins in 1950s Tehran.
“The Old Bachelor” is a family drama about two brothers living with their abusive father, and “The Wasteman” depicts a silent village where a wagon driver transports a lifeless corpse.
Since its inception in 2002, PIFF has become a prominent platform for global cinema in India, with a focus on building a healthy film culture. The festival features categories like World Competition, Marathi Competition, and Country Focus, with awards decided by an international jury.
PIFF is also known for providing international recognition to Marathi cinema, attracting filmmakers and film enthusiasts from around the world. With its commitment to showcasing diverse films and fostering cultural exchange, PIFF continues to grow in scale and importance on the international stage.
