Valentine’s Day has become a popular choice for couples looking to tie the knot, with many opting for registered marriages under the Special Marriage Act. According to Marriage Registration Officer Sangeeta Jadhav, the simplicity and legal validity of registered marriages have led to a steady increase in couples choosing this route.

Pre-registration is required under the Special Marriage Act, with couples needing to register one and a half months in advance and go through a public notice period. Once no objections are raised, couples can marry in the presence of three witnesses and receive their marriage certificates on the same day.

The Sub-Registrar Office in Pune ensured smooth operations on Valentine’s Day, issuing marriage certificates to the 31 couples who tied the knot. The large crowd at the Government Printing Press highlighted the growing trend of registered marriages for couples seeking a simple and efficient process.

With the appeal of celebrating love with an official union, more couples are opting for registered marriages, making Valentine’s Day a popular wedding date for many.
