Hey Pune peeps, big news on the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections results! Murlidhar Mohol has emerged victorious in Pune, but it’s not all good news for some candidates. The deposit money of 33 candidates, including Vanchit Bahujan Agadi’s Vasant More and former PMC Fire Brigade head Prashant Ranpise, has been forfeited. Ouch!

So, here’s the deal – when these candidates filed their nomination, they each shelled out Rs 25,000 as a deposit. But here’s the kicker – if they don’t manage to snag at least one-sixth of the total valid votes cast, their deposit goes bye-bye. And that’s exactly what happened to More and Ranpise, along with a bunch of others.

With a total of 10,97,112 valid votes up for grabs in Pune, each candidate needed to secure at least 1,84,519 votes to keep their deposit safe. Unfortunately, apart from Mohol and Mahavikas Aghadi’s Ravindra Dhangekar, no one else managed to hit that mark. More got 32,012 votes, while Ranpise only got 3,974 votes. The rest barely scraped over the 1,000 vote mark, leading to the sad forfeiture of their deposits.

Pune District Collector and District Election Officer Dr Suhas Diwase is on the case though. He’s made it clear that action will be taken in accordance with the rules set by the Election Commission of India. So, for those candidates who fell short, it’s time to say goodbye to that deposit money. Tough break, folks!
