Hey there, folks in Dattawadi! Did you know that a whopping 40 lakh litres of water is going down the drain every day from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s water canals? Yep, that’s a lot of wasted water!

So, what’s causing this massive water wastage, you ask? Well, it seems like there’s some encroachment going on behind the Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden (PL Deshpande Garden). Apparently, some folks have been filling up the canal with soil, which is causing water leakage. Yikes!

The PMC has been trying to take action to fix this issue, but they’ve been facing some opposition from the locals. Two water canals, with diameters of 2500 mm and 3000 mm, run from Khadakwasla Dam to the Parvati Water Purification Plant, and they draw 1100 MLD of water daily. That’s a lot of water at stake!

The PMC recently started removing the encroachment with a JCB, but they had to stop because of the opposition. The officials explained the situation to the citizens, but it seems like there’s still some disagreement. If the canal bursts, it could cause some serious damage, similar to what happened at Dandekar Bridge.

Nandkishore Jagtap, head of the water supply department, emphasized the importance of removing the encroachment to stop the water wastage. Let’s hope they can resolve this issue soon and prevent any further damage. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
