The Swargate Bus Stand in Pune is gearing up for a major security overhaul with the installation of 42 high-tech CCTV cameras. These cameras, equipped with night vision capabilities, are set to enhance passenger safety and assist law enforcement in preventing and solving crimes.
Currently, the bus stand only has 18 functioning cameras, which are not sufficient for effective surveillance. The new cameras will address this issue and provide better coverage. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is working in collaboration with the Swargate Police to conduct a joint survey to determine the best locations for camera installation.
This initiative is part of a larger project by MSRTC to improve security at key bus stations across Maharashtra. The entire project is estimated to cost ₹120 crore, with ₹10 lakh specifically allocated for the Swargate Bus Stand. Police have faced challenges in investigating crimes at the bus stand due to outdated cameras without night vision capabilities. Recognizing the need for an upgrade, MSRTC is taking proactive steps to enhance surveillance.
The joint survey with the police will kick off soon, with a focus on identifying strategic spots for camera placement. These measures aim to create a safer environment for passengers and streamline law enforcement efforts at one of Pune’s busiest transit hubs.
