Pune, 24th May 2024: In a recent development following the tragic Porsche car accident in Kalyani Nagar, where two IT professionals lost their lives, the state excise department has taken a tough stance on bars and pubs found to be flouting regulations. These violations include serving alcohol to minors, selling liquor in unauthorized areas, and failing to maintain proper records.

As part of the crackdown, 32 licenses of bars and pubs were suspended earlier this week, with an additional 17 licenses being suspended today by District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase. This brings the total number of establishments ordered to close to 49, pending further investigation. The State Excise Department is currently in the process of sealing these premises, according to Sujit Patil, deputy superintendent of the Pune excise department.

The crackdown was initiated after it was discovered that a minor, who had allegedly been served alcohol at two establishments – Cosie and Blak Club, was behind the wheel of the speeding Porsche at the time of the accident. The incident has sparked a wider probe into compliance with excise laws throughout the city.

“We are taking strict action against those establishments that are found to be in violation of excise regulations,” Dr. Suhas Diwase stated in response to the incident.
