Pune is gearing up to welcome Lord Ganesha this Saturday, 7th September, with heightened security measures in place. With a total of 7,000 personnel from Pune Police and other units set to be deployed during the festival period, safety is a top priority.

Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, and Deputy Commissioner of Special Branch G Sridhar, detailed security plans have been put in place. Plainclothes police officers will be on duty to prevent thefts and other unlawful activities, especially in the busy Peth areas of the city.

During the festival, a combination of 5,000 police personnel and officials, Rapid Action Force (RAF), crime branch teams, police from other regions, home guard force personnel, and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) units will be ensuring the safety of the public. Additionally, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) will inspect crowded areas, including the 5 Manache Ganpati mandals, multiple times a day with the help of trained dogs and police personnel.

To monitor the festive crowd, 1,800 CCTV cameras will be installed throughout the city, with mandals also instructed to set up their own cameras. The crime branch has taken preventive action against known troublemakers to maintain peace during the celebrations.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has announced the opening of 18 Police Help Centers in the central part of the city, with round-the-clock operations by staff from various police branches. RAF personnel will be stationed at six locations to oversee the crowd from towers to ensure everyone’s safety.

With incidents of theft and harassment reported in the past, security measures have been heightened to prevent any untoward incidents. Harassers will face consequences, including public shaming and possible legal action.

As the city prepares to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, Pune Police is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and joyous festival for all.
