In a recent development in Kondhwa, activist Jaymala Dhankikar has raised an alarm over the illegal felling of two mature trees near the Axis Bank ATM at S.M. Ghule Chowk in NIBM Annexe, Mohammadwadi. Dhankikar has called on the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take strict action against those responsible for this environmental offense.

In a letter addressed to the PMC Commissioner, Dhankikar stressed that cutting down the trees not only violates environmental laws but also goes against several legal provisions, including the Indian Forest Act and the Environment Protection Act. She has demanded that the PMC direct the Pune Police to file an FIR against the culprits, conduct a thorough investigation, and take disciplinary action against any negligent PMC officials.

The activist has emphasized the importance of enforcing environmental laws to prevent similar incidents in the future. Residents of the area have also expressed their concerns about the loss of green cover and have urged authorities to act promptly. As of now, the PMC has not responded to Dhankikar’s appeal, leaving the community awaiting further updates on the situation.
