Trainee IAS officer Pooja Khedkar is at the center of a controversy for allegedly bypassing regulations and demanding government facilities. It is claimed that she secured her position by submitting a questionable disability certificate, stating she was visually impaired and mentally ill. Khedkar, who drives around in a private Audi car with beacon lights, failed to attend medical examinations at AIIMS, Delhi, six times after passing the UPSC exam under the Visually Impaired category.

Despite the controversy surrounding her appointment, Khedkar’s father, Dilip Khedkar, a former civil servant and commissioner, unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Ahmednagar with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi support. Her mother, Dr. Manorama Khedkar, is the Sarpanch of Bhalgaon in Pathardi taluka of Ahmednagar district. This has raised questions about political interference in her appointment.

Activists are now questioning the validity of Pooja Khedkar’s appointment to the IAS, with RTI activist Vijay Kumbhar raising concerns about her transfer to Washim as a way of avoiding the controversy. Kumbhar also questioned how Khedkar qualified for the IAS given her mental illness and multiple disabilities, as well as her father’s reported income and wealth of Rs 40 crores.

Despite these issues, Pooja Khedkar has not responded to requests for comment on the controversy surrounding her appointment.
