Hey there, Pune folks! Looks like the air and noise pollution caused by Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants in Wakad, Tathawade, and surrounding areas has caught the attention of Advocate Vikas Shinde. He’s not messing around and has issued a legal notice to the District Collector, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) demanding some serious action.
According to the notice, these RMC plants are not playing by the rules and are causing some major environmental issues. The air quality in these areas is worse than Delhi, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing 300. Yikes! Residents are facing health issues due to the cement dust settling everywhere, from roads to homes.
The notice points out that there are way too many RMC plants near residential areas and schools, spewing out dust like there’s no tomorrow. Schools like Akshara International School and Indira National School are affected, putting students at risk. And let’s not forget the constant noise pollution and road damage caused by heavy vehicles transporting materials.
Advocate Shinde is not happy with the lack of action from government authorities. They’re playing hot potato with responsibility, while residents, including IT professionals and senior citizens, are suffering. The residents are not taking this lying down and recently staged a silent protest to demand clean air, citing their fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution.
The legal notice demands a joint inspection of all RMC plants in the area within 15 days, along with strict enforcement of pollution control measures. Non-compliant plants may face closure or relocation to non-residential areas. If the authorities don’t step up, legal proceedings will be initiated.
Advocate Shinde is not messing around and has also sent copies of the notice to the Maharashtra State Environment Department, NGT (Western Zone Bench), and local political representatives. Let’s hope the authorities listen up and take action to protect public health. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story!
