The Department of Dental Surgery & Oral Health Sciences at AFMC in Pune recently hosted the 14th National Dental Sciences Update, with this year’s theme focusing on “Emerging Challenges in Contemporary Dental Practice: Current Update and Future Prospective.” The event was inaugurated by Lt Gen Vineet Sharma, VSM, who highlighted the importance of staying informed and adapting to technological advancements, including the rise of artificial intelligence.

Joining Lt Gen Sharma were other esteemed dignitaries, including Lt Gen Sandeep Thareja, SM, VSM, and Maj Gen Giriraj Singh. The event featured discussions on various contemporary topics in dentistry, with speakers from national and international backgrounds sharing their insights.

Dr. TV Padmanabhan, a Senior Implantologist and Chairman of the Indian Board of Prosthodontists, delivered the keynote address, focusing on current practices and future trends in dentistry. A panel discussion on the “Future of Dentistry with Artificial Intelligence” sparked a lively debate on the role of AI in dental practice.

The update also included a PG Symposium named “Dental Sciences in 2040,” allowing emerging specialists to share their perspectives on the future of dental sciences. Over 200 graduates and postgraduates from dental colleges in the Pune region participated in the event, showcasing their dedication to advancing dental education and practice.
