1. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has a long history of water supply issues, primarily relying on the Pavana dam for water.
  2. In 2013, a water reservation from the Andra and Bhama Askhed dams was canceled due to non-payment of restoration costs.
  3. In 2017, MLA Mahesh Landge and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis initiated efforts to restore water reservation, leading to the commencement of the project in 2018.
  4. The first phase of the project involved constructing a water treatment plant at Chikhli to process water from the Andra dam, which became operational in May 2023.
  5. The second phase of the project, sourcing water from the Bhama Askhed dam, began in March 2024 and is nearing completion.
  6. Delays in the project have been caused by land acquisition issues, particularly in the MIDC Phase-2 area.
  7. PCMC is prioritizing the resolution of land acquisition issues to commence pipeline work.
  8. Construction of intake well, pump house, and other facilities near the Bhama Askhed dam is underway to meet the approved water quota.
  9. MLA Mahesh Landge emphasized the importance of the project in resolving water issues and fulfilling commitments to the people of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
  10. The completion of the project is expected by June 2025, benefiting newly included areas and meeting the city’s water demands.
