The Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Pune are on the rise, with over 200 suspected cases and eight confirmed deaths reported so far. Initially, it was thought that contaminated well water in Nanded village was the culprit, but Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has suggested that undercooked chicken meat may be the actual cause.

Addressing the media during the Pune Municipal Corporation’s 75th anniversary event, Pawar stated that investigations have shown a potential link between the consumption of undercooked chicken and the spread of GBS in the Khadakwasla area. He assured the public that there is no need to cull chickens, but people should ensure that their meat is fully cooked before consumption.

Pawar also addressed rumors of a rift between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, stating that everything is running smoothly in the state government. He clarified that Eknath Shinde’s recent warning in Nashik was directed towards party leaders and explained that a meeting between MLA Suresh Dhas and Minister Dhananjay Munde should not be overanalyzed.

Regarding the Santosh Deshmukh family case, Pawar assured the family of a thorough investigation and promised that anyone found guilty would face consequences. He also reiterated that Minister Dhananjay Munde’s resignation demands would be handled according to the law.

As GBS cases continue to be monitored and political tensions simmer, the state of governance and public health in Maharashtra hangs in the balance.
