Hey Pune folks, big news coming your way! Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Pune District’s Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar is shaking things up by directing officials to transfer health centres in newly incorporated villages to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) by March. Why the urgency, you ask? Well, it seems like healthcare facilities in these areas have been neglected for far too long.
During a recent District Planning Committee meeting, Pawar issued the order to transfer three primary health centres and 18 sub-centres from Haveli and Mulshi talukas to PMC limits. These areas were brought under PMC jurisdiction following the incorporation of nearby villages, but the Zilla Parishad’s proposal for the transfer had been sitting on the government’s desk without any action.
What’s even more concerning is the spike in Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Pune, especially in these newly incorporated areas. Local representatives have been vocal about the challenges they face in addressing health issues in these areas due to the unclear status of the health centres. Pawar wasted no time and instructed both Zilla Parishad and PMC officials to get the transfer sorted out by March.
According to PMC health department officials, the staff at these centres have been playing fast and loose with the rules, causing management issues. Representatives have also expressed their frustration with PMC’s lack of attention to GBS outbreaks in areas like Dhayari, Nanded, and Nandoshi.
So, which health centres are up for transfer? Primary health centres in Khadakwasla, Phursungi, and Wagholi, along with 18 sub-centres in locations such as Phursungi, Uruli Devachi, Wagholi, Lohgaon, Manjri Budruk, Nanded, and Nandoshi, are all on the list.
Looks like some much-needed changes are on the horizon for healthcare in Pune. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
