In a groundbreaking move, the Alandi Municipal Council in Pune has become the first “Class C” municipal council in Maharashtra to allocate funds specifically for the welfare of transgender individuals. This move showcases a commitment to inclusivity and support for marginalized communities.

Under the leadership of Administrator and Chief Executive Officer Kailas Kendre, the council presented a budget of ₹89.51 crore for the upcoming financial year, with a surplus of ₹6.65 lakh. The budget also includes provisions for supporting women, children, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals.

Key infrastructure projects outlined in the budget include improvements to the water supply infrastructure, construction of new parks for community recreation, and upgrades to waste management systems. Additionally, plans are in place for the renovation of municipal schools, an improved underground drainage system, and the construction of a new sewage treatment plant.

Administrator Kendre highlighted that these budget allocations are a response to the growing population of Alandi and the need for enhanced infrastructure to support the community. The vision is to promote overall development and inclusivity in the region, setting a positive example for other municipalities in Maharashtra.
