Pune was abuzz yesterday as Union Home Minister Amit Shah stirred up controversy with his statements against former Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar. Shah’s comments have sparked widespread criticism from leaders across Maharashtra, particularly those from the Mahavikas Aghadi, who are slamming the BJP leader for his remarks.

In his speech in Pune, Amit Shah did not hold back, calling Sharad Pawar the ‘Ringleader’ of corruption in Indian politics and accusing him of institutionalizing corruption. He also took aim at Uddhav Thackeray, alleging that the Sena chief has aligned with controversial figures and organizations.

The reactions to Shah’s statements have been swift and sharp. Supriya Sule, responding to the Home Minister’s comments, found them amusing, pointing out that it was the previous Modi administration that honored Sharad Pawar with the Padma Vibhushan. She also took a dig at the BJP for welcoming those accused of corruption into their party fold.

Uddhav Sena spokesperson Sushma Andhare minced no words in her response to Amit Shah, dismissing his criticisms and asserting that Maharashtra does not need certificates from someone who was ‘externed’ from Gujarat. She also took a swipe at Shah’s levels dropping and questioned his motives.

Sanjay Raut, another prominent figure from Uddhav Sena, hit back at Shah, highlighting the differences between their party and the BJP. Raut made it clear that they are not members of the Jinnah Fan Club and criticized the BJP’s election tactics.

Vishal Patil, Sangli MP, also weighed in on the issue, expressing disappointment in the BJP’s budget and criticizing their attempts to polarize elections along religious lines.

In the midst of the heated exchanges, a video of BJP’s Ujjwal Nikam refuting claims about serving biryani to Kasab went viral, further adding to the political drama.

The discord within the Mahayuti alliance is palpable, with even leaders from within expressing disappointment with Amit Shah’s remarks. Pimpri MLA Anna Bansode, from Ajit Pawar’s NCP, emphasized the need for respect towards Sharad Pawar, calling him a national leader and criticizing Shah’s statements.

As Maharashtra continues to reel from Amit Shah’s controversial statements, it remains to be seen how the political landscape in the state will evolve in the coming days.
