Dr. Abhijit Vaidya, along with other members of Arogya Sena, recently launched a manifesto that focuses on the needs of Maharashtra’s farmers, workers, unorganized laborers, and middle class. The manifesto highlights the importance of public health but criticizes the state budget allocations as insufficient. Dr. Vaidya stressed the need for increased investment to strengthen the weakening public health system.
The manifesto also advocates for a balanced, efficient, corruption-free, and easily accessible public health network for both urban and rural populations. It proposes a minimum annual health insurance of ₹5 lakh for all citizens and free surgeries for heart conditions, kidney transplants, and cancer treatments for those with yellow and orange ration cards under the Jeevdaya Scheme.
Key demands of the manifesto include increased budget allocation for public health, strengthening of the healthcare system, strict regulation of drug prices, drug names to be in the state’s official language, assurance of clean drinking water, proper management of sewage and drainage systems, and effective waste management practices. These demands aim to improve the overall health and well-being of the people of Maharashtra.
