In a shocking turn of events at Pune Cantonment Court, Assistant Public Prosecutor Anjala Navgire was recently nabbed accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. The bribe was reportedly in exchange for helping facilitate the return of a car that had been seized in connection with a criminal case.

The incident dates back to June 2024 when a Maruti Swift belonging to a complainant was confiscated by the Hadapsar Police following her husband’s involvement in a criminal case. Desperate to retrieve the vehicle, the complainant sought assistance from the court, which instructed the public prosecutor’s office to weigh in on the matter.

It was during a meeting with Navgire that things took a corrupt turn. Allegedly, Navgire demanded the bribe to expedite the process of returning the seized car. However, the complainant refused and promptly reported the incident to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

The ACB wasted no time in launching an investigation, verifying the complaint and confirming Navgire’s misconduct. A trap was subsequently set at Navgire’s office in Pune Cantonment Court, leading to her apprehension while accepting the bribe.

Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve oversaw the operation, with Police Inspector Rupesh Jadhav now heading the ongoing investigation. This brazen act of corruption serves as a stark reminder of the lengths some individuals will go to abuse their positions of power for personal gain.
