Exciting news for residents of Pune as the long-awaited Baramati-Phaltan railway line project has finally kicked off its first phase of development. The project, which was approved back in 1997-1998, has faced numerous delays over the years, mainly due to the lengthy land acquisition process that took a whopping 26 years to complete. But now, with land acquisition finally in the rearview mirror, the railway department has wasted no time in getting the ball rolling.

The initial phase of the project will focus on soil work, with activities currently underway in the Tandulwadi and Sawantwadi areas from the Baramati side, and near Kuranewadi from the Phaltan side. This phase is expected to be completed within a year, paving the way for station construction and track laying, with an anticipated completion date set for December 2026.

Once completed, the 37-kilometer railway line will boast a number of key infrastructure elements, including several bridges, new stations at New Baramati, Malwadi, and Dhakale, as well as electrification from the get-go.

The benefits of the new railway line are expected to be significant, with reduced travel time, distance savings, and improved operational efficiency at the top of the list. The project is estimated to cost around 600 crore rupees over two phases, with the entire endeavor scheduled for completion by December 2026.

Overall, the Baramati-Phaltan railway line project promises to enhance connectivity between Baramati, Phaltan, and Lonand, ushering in a new era of travel efficiency and infrastructure development for the region. Exciting times ahead for Pune residents!
